Best Mexican Restaurants in Las Vegas
7 min read
Mexican food in Vegas spans a huge range, from polished Strip dining rooms with serious mezcal programs to taquerias where you eat standing up at midnight. Both can be great if you know where to go.
Here is where I eat Mexican depending on whether I want a sit-down experience, a value feast, or just the best taco I can get at 1am.
Mercado Little Spain and the Upscale Strip Rooms
On the Strip, several upscale Mexican and Spanish-Mexican rooms do refined plates, strong margaritas, and deep mezcal and tequila lists. They are the move for a sit-down dinner with a view and a cocktail program.
Upper tier. You are paying Strip prices, but the cocktails and the room often justify it for a nicer night out. Good for groups and date nights.
Tacos El Gordo: The Cult Favorite
Tacos El Gordo does Tijuana-style tacos and the adobada is the order. There is a Strip-adjacent location and the line moves fast even late at night. Cheap, fast, authentic.
Lower tier and worth every penny. This is the taco spot tourists and locals both line up for. Get the adobada and the carne asada and thank me later.
Casa Don Juan Downtown: The Local Institution
Near downtown, Casa Don Juan is the long-running, locally-beloved sit-down Mexican spot. Big portions, fair prices, strong margaritas, and a menu that goes well beyond tacos.
Mid-tier. This is where you go for a full sit-down Mexican meal without the Strip markup. Reliable and packed for a reason.
The Chinatown and Suburban Taquerias
Beyond the famous names, Vegas is full of neighborhood taquerias and birria spots doing excellent work for almost nothing. The birria and consome trend hit Vegas hard and there are several standout spots around town.
Lower tier. If you have a car, exploring the off-Strip taquerias is some of the best eating-per-dollar in the entire city.
How to Eat Mexican in Vegas
For a sit-down dinner and cocktails, the upscale Strip rooms. For a value sit-down, Casa Don Juan. For the best tacos, El Gordo and the off-Strip taquerias. For late-night, El Gordo again.
Do not pay Strip prices for tacos when El Gordo is right there. Save the splurge budget for the rooms where the cocktail program actually earns it.
