7/10New York-New York
South Strip, across from MGM Grand, by Excalibur6 min read
Fun theme and a lively floor, but the smallest bathroom I have seen and a short king bed. A 3.5 out of 5 for me.
Best for: Average-height travelers who want a fun, lively, themed south-Strip stay at a good price and do not need a big bed.

I booked a basic king at New York-New York to walk you through the property. First impression walking in was good, no weird smells, clean, and a decent amount of space, with plenty of room to spread out your luggage.
But two things stood out, the bathroom and the bed, and they are the reason this one landed where it did. Here is the honest version of my stay.
What I liked
- Fun, well-done New York theme, and the lively downstairs area is part of the charm
- Clean room with a decent amount of space and room to put your luggage out
- Decent south-Strip location across from MGM Grand with a free tram up to the Bellagio
- Tons of food options, and the Gonzalez y Gonzalez carnitas tacos were good and reasonably priced at 15 dollars
What to know
- Hands down the smallest bathroom I have seen across 16-plus Strip stays
- The bed is a short king, more like a full length, so my feet hung off the edge and I slept poorly
- My sixth-floor view was mostly rooftop, parking garages, and just a bit of the roller coaster
The room
I was on the sixth floor and the view was mostly rooftop, a couple parking garages, the Park MGM, a bit of the pool, and a sliver of the roller coaster. The bathroom is the smallest I have come across in over 16 Strip stays, no way around it, this place is just super small in there.
The bigger issue for me was the bed. It looked off, and when I laid down my feet hung over the edge, which never happens to me on a true king. It is a short king, just as wide as a king but missing four or five inches in length. I am a tall guy, so I slept sideways and did not sleep great, but for most average-height people this probably will not be an issue.
Pool, casino, and food
There is just one pool here plus a hot tub, but it is a decent size with plenty of lawn chairs to lay out in the sun, so not a bad area, just not huge. The casino is small and feels condensed, with the slots close together, a basic sports book, and table games at 10 dollar minimums.
Food is a strong point. The little New York area has Greenberg's Deli, America, Beer House, and Nathan's Famous all around you. I went to Gonzalez y Gonzalez for the carnitas tacos with black beans and rice, and at 15 dollars it was reasonably priced for the Strip.
What I paid
I paid 75 dollars plus taxes and fees, which came out to about 127 all in, and I think that is a pretty good deal for this hotel. The theme is nice and the room is clean, so the value is there if the bed is not a dealbreaker for you.
David's tip
If you are tall, know that the king here is a short king, missing a few inches in length, so your feet may hang off. For average-height travelers it should be a non-issue, and the price and theme make it a decent stay.

Is the bed at New York-New York a real king?
Not quite. It is a short king, just as wide as a king but shorter in length, almost like an RV king. As a tall guy my feet hung off the edge, but for average-height people it likely will not be a problem.

Cheap bed on the Strip for around 80 dollars all in, but the room gets musty and there is not much to do. Three stars.

A budget pyramid with a great theme and a comfy bed. I give it a 3.5 and would pick it over the Excalibur any day.

Center Strip, great pools, and a fair price when you catch it. A solid 4.5 out of 5 for me.
