7/10Luxor
South Strip, near the Las Vegas sign6 min read
A budget pyramid with a great theme and a comfy bed. I give it a 3.5 and would pick it over the Excalibur any day.
Best for: Budget travelers who want a cheap room with a fun theme and do not mind walking to the rest of the Strip.

I booked a basic king at the Luxor so I could walk you through the whole property. The room was clean, but the second I opened the door I got hit with a strong smell of bleach. They do fast turnarounds and it was probably cleaned 30 minutes before I got in, but it was strong enough that I propped the door open to air it out. The ventilation here is just not great.
The Luxor is a budget place on the south Strip, and that bleach smell did go away after a few hours. Here is the honest version of what you are getting.
What I liked
- The theme is my favorite part, you are staying inside a big pyramid and the architecture and structures are all really cool
- The bed was nice and I slept great, which matters a lot to me when I book a hotel
- Lots to do on property, from the King Tut exhibit and Titanic exhibit to Blue Man Group, Fantasy, Carrot Top, and the HyperX gaming arena
- Cheap room rates, you can find some really good budget deals here
What to know
- Bad ventilation, the bleach smell was overpowering when I walked in and took a few hours to clear
- The location is just mediocre, you are far south and have to do a lot of walking to reach the center or north Strip
- Not many places to eat, the food court only has about five restaurants
The room
I was on the eighth floor and did not book a specific view, but I got a pool view I liked, with the mountain ranges in the distance and nothing really blocking it. The room was clean, just heavy on the bleach smell at first.
The bathroom is fairly small, not as tiny as New York New York but on the smaller side. It does have a really nice big mirror, a single sink, the toilet right up front, and a medium sized shower that looked clean. Not a bad bathroom.
The pool, the property, and the food
There are four pools, but one is closed off and half of another is too, so it is really more like two and a half. They are still fairly big with lots of chairs, day beds, and cabanas. There is not much shade, so grab a day bed or cabana if you want some.
The casino floor is big with lots of square footage, slots and table games at 10 and 15 dollar minimums, and a basic no smoking sports book. For food I went to Diablo Cantina and had the steak fajitas, which were amazing, I built little tacos and walked away stuffed.
David's tip
Prop the door open for a bit when you check in to air the room out, the ventilation is weak and the cleaning smell hangs around. And if you are choosing between here and the Excalibur at the same price, take the Luxor.

Frequently asked
Is the Luxor a good budget hotel?
Yes, it is a budget place where you can find really cheap deals. The bed was nice, I slept great, and the pyramid theme is my favorite part. Just know the ventilation is weak and you do a lot of walking to reach the rest of the Strip.
Should I stay at the Luxor or the Excalibur?
I would pick the Luxor over the Excalibur any day, and they are often the same price. The theme and the room won me over.

Cheap bed on the Strip for around 80 dollars all in, but the room gets musty and there is not much to do. Three stars.

Center Strip, great pools, and a fair price when you catch it. A solid 4.5 out of 5 for me.
