VICI and Caesars Eye Strip Land for an NBA Arena

The site in question sits behind three Strip resorts, Paris Las Vegas, Horseshoe Las Vegas, and Planet Hollywood, on land jointly owned by VICI and Caesars. Various accounts put the parcel at roughly 40 to 50 acres. Right now that ground hosts the BattleBots Arena, a 1,000 to 1,200 seat venue, along with staging areas tied to the Formula 1 Las Vegas Grand Prix.

John Payne, VICI's president and chief operating officer, put it plainly on the earnings call: "we are developing a plan with Caesars ... to house the arena that could be built for the new NBA team." Caesars Chief Commercial Officer Sean McBurney has also been named as involved on the Caesars side, according to KTNV. It is not the first time this stretch of land has been eyed for a stadium. Nearly 20 years ago, the same parcel was floated as a possible site for a baseball stadium that never got built.

The NBA's Board of Governors voted in March to formally explore expansion into Las Vegas and Seattle, and Commissioner Adam Silver has said the league wants a decision by the end of 2026. Silver has also been clear that nothing is locked in yet, telling reporters "no votes have been taken yet, we've got a ways to go."

VICI and Caesars are not the only ones circling this. Other groups reportedly pitching Las Vegas sites include Vegas Golden Knights owner Bill Foley, venture capitalist Joshua Kushner, former Disney CEO Bob Iger, and a group backed by Magic Johnson. That competition is exactly why VICI going on the record now, tied to a specific piece of land it already owns, stands out from the usual expansion speculation.

Nothing changes for anyone booking a room this year or next. There is no arena, no groundbreaking date, and no confirmed NBA team, only a landlord and an operator talking about a plan on an earnings call. Even in the best case for VICI and Caesars, an NBA decision this year would still mean years of construction before tip off.

What is worth watching is the location. If this version of the plan wins out over the other bids, the mid Strip corridor around Paris, Horseshoe, and Planet Hollywood would become the site of a major sports venue, the kind of addition that tends to push hotel demand and rates up in the surrounding blocks once it is actually built. For now, treat it as a name to remember rather than a reason to change any travel plans.
