Sammy Hagar Invites David Lee Roth to Vegas Residency

On July 23, Roth's team quietly pulled six tour dates between July 23 and September 4 from his website, leaving a single show standing: Sturgis, South Dakota on August 7. The tour had launched back in April and was later extended through September, so this was not a minor scheduling tweak, it was most of the run getting scrapped at once. No official explanation came from Roth's camp. Reports since have pointed to weak ticket sales rather than a health issue, though nobody involved has confirmed that on the record.

Hagar posted his response on video, and it reads more like a genuine olive branch than a publicity stunt. "I hope you're well. I hope there's not a physical problem," he said, before pivoting to the offer: "Come to Vegas for the residency in September. Come on, join us. Sing a couple songs, MC the damn show."

The residency in question is Hagar's Best of All Worlds run at Dolby Live at Park MGM, back for a second 2026 stretch after playing there in March. The September dates are the 18th, 19th, 23rd, 25th and 26th, with Hagar backed by original Van Halen bassist Michael Anthony, guitarist Joe Satriani, drummer Kenny Aronoff and multi-instrumentalist Rai Thistlethwayte. Tickets for those shows have been on sale since last September, so this is not a new announcement, it is Hagar using an already-booked run to make a very public gesture.

Hagar replaced Roth as Van Halen's frontman back in 1985, and the two have spent the decades since trading barbs in interviews rather than acting like old bandmates. They toured together briefly in 2002 as part of a package tour, but the sniping picked back up not long after, most recently with Roth needling Hagar over a story about being visited by Eddie Van Halen's ghost. A public invite to share a stage, offered right after Roth's tour fell apart, is a rare moment of the two setting that history aside.

Do not book a trip banking on David Lee Roth actually walking onstage at Dolby Live. He has not said yes, and Hagar's invite was made publicly with no indication the two have worked out details. Treat it as a nice story, not a confirmed guest appearance.

What is real is Hagar's own run of shows. If you are already planning to be on the Strip the week of September 18 through 26, Best of All Worlds at Dolby Live is a legitimate arena-caliber rock show with a genuine Van Halen lineage, regardless of whether Roth turns up. Given how the story has spread this week, do not be surprised if ticket demand for those dates ticks up on the chance he takes Hagar up on the offer.
