Palms Las Vegas Opens a New Smoke-Free Casino Floor

The new room sits near the William Hill Sportsbook and Tonic Bar inside Palms. It runs 24 hours a day, holds 224 slot machines described as new and popular titles pulled from nearly a dozen leading manufacturers, and has its own dedicated bar inside the enclosure, according to Casino.org and 8 News Now.

The room opens to the public on August 24. Palms is following that with an official grand opening celebration on September 1, which adds a celebrity charity slot tournament with proceeds going to 10 Southern Nevada nonprofit organizations, per Casino.org's reporting. So there is a soft open for anyone who wants to try the room early, and a bigger event a week later for anyone who wants the full celebration around it.

Palms' general manager pointed to guest feedback as the reason, saying it drives so much of what the resort does, and that requests for more non-smoking gaming options have been consistent, according to Casino.org.

Palms is operated by the San Manuel Gaming and Hospitality Authority, a division of the Yuhaaviatam of San Manuel Nation. With Park MGM and the Plaza as the only real precedents for dedicated smoke-free gaming in Las Vegas, and both smaller in scope than what Palms is building, this is a meaningfully larger commitment to that side of the market than the city has seen off the Strip. It also gives Palms a way to stand out against other off-Strip casinos that still run a single, all-smoking floor with no separate option at all.

If smoke on the casino floor has kept you away from Palms, this room gives you a real option starting August 24. It is easy to find once you are on property, right by the sportsbook and Tonic Bar.

Nothing else at Palms is closing or changing to make room for this, it is an addition, not a renovation. If the timing matters to your trip, book around August 24 for the room's debut, or September 1 if you want to catch the charity slot tournament and the bigger grand opening. Either way, the rest of the casino floor, the sportsbook, and Tonic Bar all keep running exactly as they do today.
