Things to Do in Las Vegas This Weekend
7 min read
A Vegas weekend goes fast, and the rookie move is to wing it and lose Saturday to a buffet line and a nap. Plan loosely and you can pack in a lot.
Here is the framework I use to build a 48-hour weekend that hits the big stuff without burning out.
Lock in one big show first
Weekend show slots sell out, so book before you arrive. The Sphere, a Cirque du Soleil title like O or Mystère, or a residency headliner are the anchors people remember.
Pick one marquee night and build the rest of the weekend around it.
Do a pool day on Saturday
Weekends are when the dayclubs go off. Encore Beach Club, Ayu at Resorts World, and Tao Beach all bring DJs on Saturday afternoons.
Want it calmer? The pools at the Venetian or Mandalay Bay's wave pool are great for actually relaxing. Either way, daytime by the water is the right weekend move.
Reserve one nice dinner
Weekend reservations vanish, so grab one good table. Bavette's at Park MGM, Carbone at Aria, and Estiatorio Milos are the names I send people to.
Book it for the night you are not doing the big show so you are not rushing through a $90 steak.
Pick your nightlife lane
Megaclub crowd: XS at Wynn and Zouk at Resorts World have the biggest weekend lineups. Get on a guest list early.
Prefer lower key? Downtown's Fremont East district has great bars with no cover and a fraction of the attitude.
Save Sunday for daytime exploring
Sunday is the day to slow down. Brunch somewhere good, walk the Arts District for coffee and murals, or drive 20 minutes to Red Rock Canyon for the scenic loop.
If the weather is rough, AREA15 and the indoor attractions make an easy lazy-Sunday plan.

Frequently asked
What is the busiest night in Las Vegas?
Saturday by a mile, with Friday close behind. Expect higher hotel rates, packed clubs, and longer restaurant waits, so book everything in advance.
How many days do you need in Vegas?
A weekend of three nights is plenty for a first trip. It gives you one big show, one pool day, a couple of great dinners, and a relaxed final morning.
Should I book shows in advance for the weekend?
Yes. Weekend show and dinner slots are the first to sell out, so lock in your one or two anchors before you fly in.
