Las Vegas Weather by Month: A Year-Round Guide
8 min read
Vegas weather is not subtle. Summers try to cook you, winters get genuinely cold at night, and the shoulder seasons are close to perfect. The month you pick changes the entire trip.
After years of trips in every season, here is my straight month-by-month rundown so you can match your timing to what you actually want, whether that is pool parties, comfortable walking, or rock-bottom hotel rates.
Winter: December, January, February
This is the cold and cheap season. Daytime highs sit in the 50s, nights drop into the 30s and 40s, and pools are closed or winter-only.
December is split: cheap early, then holidays and the wild New Year's Eve crowd. January is one of the quietest, best-value months of the year. February stays cold but picks up around Super Bowl weekend and Valentine's Day.
Come in winter if you want low prices and you are happy doing indoor things: shows, dining, casinos, and spas. Pack a real jacket and forget about swimming.
Spring: March, April, May
Spring is one of the two best windows. The weather warms into comfortable territory and the pools start coming back to life.
March is mild and busy thanks to March Madness, with highs in the 60s and 70s. April is close to perfect, with highs in the 70s and 80s and pools reopening. May heats up into the 80s and 90s and pool season is in full swing.
This is prime time for walking the Strip and outdoor dining. The trade-off is that spring is popular, so weekends and event dates get crowded and pricey.
Summer: June, July, August
This is the furnace. Daytime highs routinely hit 100 to 110 or more, and even the nights stay warm. It is no joke, and you need to plan around the heat.
The upside is full pool and dayclub season, plus softer midweek hotel rates because the heat scares off some travelers. The downside is you cannot comfortably do much outside in the afternoon.
Come in summer if you want pool parties and deals and you are fine spending the hottest hours indoors or in the water. Hydrate constantly and never underestimate the desert sun.
Fall: September, October, November
Fall is the other great window, and October might be the single best month of the year. September starts hot with pools still open and cools off by month end. October is close to perfect with great events and Halloween. November cools into the 60s and 70s and brings the massive F1 weekend.
The weather steadily improves through the season, pool season fades out by late October, and the events calendar is loaded.
Come in fall for the best balance of good weather, strong events, and reasonable midweek pricing, just steer around F1 weekend unless that is why you are coming.
Quick Picks by Priority
Best weather: October and April. Comfortable highs, cool nights, clear skies.
Cheapest: early December and January. Cold but quiet, with the lowest rates of the year.
Pool season: May through September. Full dayclub energy and warm water, peaking in the summer heat.
Best events: October for Halloween, November for F1, February for Super Bowl, March for March Madness.
Avoid if you hate heat: July and August. The desert summer is brutal and outdoor daytime activity is limited.
