March is the turning point. The weather warms into genuinely pleasant territory, the pools start reopening, and the city's energy ramps back up after the winter lull. It is one of my favorite months because you get spring temperatures without the summer furnace.
But March also brings two big crowd magnets: the college basketball tournament and spring break. Both fill the sportsbooks and the day clubs. Let me break down the weather, the events, and how to plan around the chaos.
The Real March Weather
March warms up nicely. Daytime highs climb from the mid-60s early in the month to the mid-70s by the end, with nights still cool in the upper 40s to low 50s. It is close to ideal: warm enough for daytime comfort, cool enough that walking the Strip is pleasant.
This is when pool season begins. Many resort pools and the first day clubs reopen in March, especially toward the back half of the month, though the water can still be cold and a windy day will keep you out. Early March is touch-and-go for pools, late March is reliably better.
Wind is the wildcard. March can get gusty, which makes the open Strip feel cooler and occasionally kicks up dust. Bring a light jacket for the evenings.
The Basketball Tournament Takes Over
Mid-to-late March is the college basketball tournament, and Vegas becomes the center of the sports-betting universe for it. The sportsbooks at Circa, the Westgate SuperBook, and the big resort books are absolutely packed, especially the opening Thursday and Friday.
If you love sports betting and crowd energy, this is one of the best weekends of the year to be here. Get to the book early, like before the first morning game, or you will not get a seat. Circa's stadium-style book is the marquee spot.
If you do not care about basketball, know that rates spike and the books are mobbed those days. Plan dinners and shows away from the sportsbook crush.
Spring Break and Day Clubs
Spring break crowds roll in through March, and as the pools reopen the day club scene cranks back up. Weekends get younger, louder, and busier. If that is your scene, March is a fun time to be in town.
If it is not your scene, the adults-only and European-style pools are calmer alternatives, and weekdays are dramatically quieter than weekends. Tuesday through Thursday is your friend.
Day club covers and bottle minimums climb as the season ramps. Buy tickets ahead for the big pool parties and know the cover before you walk up.
What Else to Do
March is excellent for the outdoors. Red Rock Canyon, Valley of Fire, and Grand Canyon tours are all in their sweet spot before the summer heat arrives. Do the hikes now, the spring temperatures will not last.
Shows and dinners run as always. With the weather this good, I would build daytime around the outdoors or the pool and save the indoor shows and steakhouses for the evening.
Spas are still great but no longer the only refuge, since you can actually be outside comfortably. Use the warm afternoons.
March Trip Mistakes to Avoid
Do not assume the pools are fully open in early March. The season is just starting and a cold, windy day will shut it down. Late March is the safer bet for pool plans.
Do not book the basketball tournament weekend without expecting a packed city and higher rates. If you are not into it, the midweek days around it are much calmer.
Do not skip the desert. The outdoor weather in March is some of the best all year, and people waste it sitting inside a casino. Get out to Red Rock at least once.
