The Park and AREA15 Outdoor Spaces: Free Vegas Hangouts

6 min read

Vegas is not all carpet and air conditioning. There are real outdoor public spaces where you can sit, walk, and people-watch without dropping money on a casino floor, and most visitors never find them.

These are my go-to free outdoor spots, from the landscaped plaza between the Strip megaresorts to the trippy yard outside Area15. Grab a coffee, get some air, and enjoy Vegas without the slot machine soundtrack.

01

The Park (Between New York-New York and Park MGM)

The Park is a landscaped pedestrian promenade connecting New York-New York, Park MGM, and the T-Mobile Arena, with desert plants, shade structures, water features, and the towering Bliss Dance statue.

It is free to walk and sit, and on event nights at T-Mobile Arena it comes alive. The 40-foot Bliss Dance sculpture is the photo. Best free outdoor spot on the central Strip.

02

AREA15 Outdoor Plaza

Area15 is the immersive art and entertainment complex just off the Strip, and while the inside attractions cost money, the outdoor plaza is free and worth seeing. Think large-scale art installations, a giant praying mantis that shoots fire, and rotating sculptures.

The mantis flame shows happen on a schedule after dark and cost nothing to watch. The whole exterior is built for photos. Free, weird, and very Vegas.

03

The LINQ Promenade

The open-air LINQ Promenade runs from the Strip back to the High Roller observation wheel, lined with bars, restaurants, and shops. You can walk the whole thing for free.

Even without riding the wheel, it is a lively outdoor strip for people watching, street performers, and the occasional free live music. Good evening stroll.

04

Toshiba Plaza at T-Mobile Arena

Right next to The Park, Toshiba Plaza is the open gathering space outside T-Mobile Arena, with big video screens and event-day energy.

On Golden Knights game nights and concert nights it turns into a free outdoor party. Even on a quiet day it is a pleasant open space to cut through.

05

Downtown's Container Park Patio

Downtown, the Downtown Container Park has a free outdoor courtyard built from shipping containers, with a giant praying mantis sculpture out front that also shoots fire at night.

The courtyard with its big play structure and fire pits is open and free to hang in, though some vendors and the play area have their own rules. Great for a downtown break.

How to Build a Free Outdoor Evening

On the Strip: start at The Park at golden hour, walk to Toshiba Plaza, then wander the LINQ Promenade after dark.

Off-Strip: hit Area15 for the mantis flame show, since that whole complex was built to be photographed at night. Both routes cost nothing if you skip the bars.
