Bellagio Conservatory and Botanical Gardens: A Free Visit Guide

5 min read

The Bellagio Conservatory and Botanical Gardens is one of the best free things you can do on the Strip, full stop. It is a 14,000-square-foot indoor garden that the Bellagio's horticulture team tears down and rebuilds five times a year with elaborate seasonal displays.

We are talking towering floral sculptures, animatronics, water features, and tens of thousands of fresh plants swapped out every few weeks. It costs nothing to walk through, it is air-conditioned, and it is genuinely one of my favorite stops in town.

01

What It Is

Step inside the Bellagio lobby, look up at the Chihuly glass ceiling, and walk straight back. The Conservatory sits just past the lobby and the displays change with the calendar.

Each season brings a fully redesigned theme. The crew shuts a section down for about a week between displays to rebuild, then unveils something new. The plants are real and constantly maintained, so it always looks fresh.

It is fully indoor and climate controlled, which makes it a perfect midday escape when the Strip is baking.

02

The Five Seasonal Displays

Chinese New Year usually kicks off the year with the zodiac animal of the year as the centerpiece, full of red, gold, and lanterns. Spring follows with a huge floral explosion and often whimsical animals or windmills.

Summer brings a brighter, often international or playful theme. Fall is my favorite, with pumpkins, giant gourds, scarecrows, and harvest colors. Then the winter holiday display closes the year with a massive tree, snow effects, and a polar theme that is the most popular of all.

Each runs several weeks. If you care which one you see, check the current theme and the changeover dates before your trip so you do not hit the brief rebuild window.

03

When to Go

Early morning is the move. Before about 10am the Conservatory is calm and you can actually photograph the displays without a wall of people. By afternoon it gets shoulder to shoulder, especially during the holiday display.

It is open 24 hours, so a late-night walk-through after a show is another quiet option. The lighting at night is great for photos.

Avoid the changeover gaps. There is roughly a week between each seasonal display when part of it is closed for the rebuild.

04

Combine It With the Fountains

The Bellagio is also home to the famous fountain show out front on the lake, which is also free. Time your Conservatory visit so you catch a fountain show on the way in or out.

The fountains run more frequently in the evening, every 15 minutes after dark, and stretch to every half hour in the afternoon. Walk the Conservatory, then post up on the rail outside for the next show.

While you are inside, look up at the Chihuly ceiling in the lobby and peek at the high-end shops. The whole loop is free and easily an hour of your day.
