Aria Fine Art Collection: A Free Strip Art Walk
6 min read
Most people walk past tens of millions of dollars of museum-grade art at Aria and CityCenter without realizing it. The collection includes Maya Lin, Nancy Rubins, Jenny Holzer, and more, all installed in public spaces you can walk for free.
This is the most underrated free thing on the Strip for anyone who likes art. Here is a self-guided route through the highlights so you do not miss them.
Maya Lin's Silver River
Behind the Aria reception desk hangs a giant cast-silver sculpture by Maya Lin, the artist behind the Vietnam Veterans Memorial. It is a reclaimed-silver casting of the Colorado River.
It is huge, it is free, and almost everyone checking in walks right past it without looking. Start your art walk here.
Nancy Rubins' Big Edge
Out near the valet and the tram connecting Aria to other CityCenter properties sits Big Edge, a massive sculpture made of dozens of real boats and canoes bundled together like a giant bouquet.
It is the most photographed piece in the collection for good reason. Genuinely striking up close and completely free to walk around.
Jenny Holzer's Text Installation
Jenny Holzer's LED text installation runs along the Aria valet area, scrolling poetry and Las Vegas-related text in moving light.
It is easy to miss because it looks like signage at a glance. Slow down and read it. This is real conceptual art, not a casino ticker.
Henry Moore and the Crystals Mall
The Shops at Crystals, the mall at the center of CityCenter, holds more of the collection, including a reclining figure by Henry Moore and the dramatic Glacia ice towers water feature by WET Design.
Crystals itself is a piece of architecture worth walking even if you buy nothing. The treehouse-like wood structure in the center is a free draw.
Why This Beats a Paid Museum
Vegas does not have a great traditional art museum on the Strip, so this scattered open-air collection is the closest thing. The difference is it is free, never crowded, and you can do it on your own time.
If you like art at all, this is a better hour than most of the paid attractions nearby. My pick for free culture on the Strip.
Self-Guided Route
Start inside Aria at the Maya Lin piece, walk out toward the tram for Big Edge, catch the Holzer text on the way, then cross into Crystals for the Henry Moore and the WET Design water features.
Budget about an hour. Grab the free art guide from the Aria concierge if you want the full list and locations.
David X Las Vegas earns a commission on bookings made through this link, at no extra cost to you. It never changes my honest take.
