Vegas Loop Paradise Extension Targets Grand Prix

Friday, October 23, 2026·3 min read

The Vegas Loop's two-mile Paradise Road extension is now expected to open as a complete pair of tunnels before the November Las Vegas Grand Prix, though a public opening date has not been announced.

The next meaningful Vegas Loop expansion is now being aimed at the one weekend when moving around the resort corridor gets hardest. The Boring Company's Paradise extension is expected to open before the Formula 1 Las Vegas Grand Prix, scheduled for November 19 through 21. For visitors staying near Westgate, Virgin Hotels or UNLV, that could add another underground option instead of putting every trip onto Paradise Road or the Strip.

The important qualifier is that this is a target, not a date you should build a trip around yet. The Las Vegas Review-Journal reported October 22 that the company now plans to put both tunnels into service together before Grand Prix weekend. FOX5 reported separately that the company has said new stops are coming soon, but has not announced an opening date. That distinction matters when you are choosing a hotel or figuring out how to reach a race-week plan.

What Is Being Added

The new University Center Loop is a two-mile pair of tunnels beneath Paradise Road, running from Westgate Las Vegas to a Boring Company site at 4744 Paradise Road near UNLV, according to the Review-Journal. The paper reported that the original plan was to activate one tunnel in October and the other a few weeks later. LVCVA president and CEO Steve Hill said the plan changed so both could enter service together before the race.

FOX5's reporting fills in the visitor-facing geography. A station is under construction near the UNLV campus, across from the Thomas & Mack Center, and the company has described hoped-for connections to Westgate and Virgin Hotels. The extension is not a new rail line with a published map and timetable. It is part of the Tesla-vehicle tunnel network that is already operating around the Convention Center and several nearby resorts.

Why The Timing Matters

Grand Prix weekend puts unusual pressure on the roads around the east side of the Strip, Paradise Road and the Convention Center area. A working Paradise connection could give eventgoers and hotel guests another route between Westgate, the UNLV side of Paradise and the existing Loop network. The Review-Journal reported that the goal is to have the longest extension in the system open before the November race, rather than opening the two tunnels in stages.

That could be useful, but visitors should resist treating it as a guaranteed F1 transportation plan. FOX5 reported that its requests for an update from the Boring Company, LVCVA and Clark County did not produce a confirmed opening date. Until a station is formally operating and fares, hours and access points are posted, book transportation with the assumption that the normal roads, rideshares and walking routes still do the work.

How To Plan Around It

If you are staying at Westgate or near UNLV for a November convention, game or Grand Prix weekend, the extension is worth watching because it could change a short trip from a car ride into a direct underground connection. Check the Boring Company and hotel information close to travel day, not just a news story or an old map screenshot. A planned station is not the same thing as a station accepting riders.

For now, the most useful news is the tighter target. Earlier reporting described an October opening in stages; the latest update points to both tunnels coming online together ahead of Formula 1. That is progress, but it is still a moving project. Keep your hotel choice and dinner reservations sensible on foot, leave time for road traffic, and regard the Paradise Loop as a possible bonus until the opening is official.

My bottom line

The Vegas Loop's two-mile Paradise Road extension is targeting a full opening before the November 19 through 21 Las Vegas Grand Prix. It could improve connections around Westgate, UNLV and Virgin Hotels, but no public opening date has been announced, so visitors should not rely on it until service details are official.
