Hard Rock's Guitar Tower Nears Completion on the Strip

Hard Rock Las Vegas still will not open for more than a year, but its signature guitar tower finally looks like one. New photos from the Las Vegas Review-Journal show the 42-story tower largely wrapped in its blue-tinted glass facade, with just one corner still bare, and crews have started mounting the LED guitar-string system that will eventually run the full height of the building.
It is the clearest sign yet of what the old Mirage site is turning into. The tower topped out this spring, and the resort around it, priced at roughly $4 billion, is still tracking toward a late second half of 2027 opening, according to the Review-Journal and a separate report from CDC Gaming.
What actually changed
The guitar-shaped tower is enclosed in stacked bands of blue glass panels, with exterior sheathing now covering the lower portions as well. Window installation is also underway on the resort's other hotel tower, the former Mirage tri-tower, which is going through a full interior renovation rather than a teardown.
The detail worth watching is the LED string system. Once it is finished, illuminated guitar strings will stretch the full height of the tower, which is likely to make it one of the more recognizable pieces of the nighttime Strip skyline the same way the Sphere's exterior display already is.
The scope of the resort
The guitar tower itself rises about 660 feet. The lower 100 feet holds the first five floors of the resort, and the remaining 560 feet is stacked with 675 hotel rooms and suites. Across the full property, Hard Rock Las Vegas is planned for roughly 3,600 hotel rooms once both towers are finished, along with nearly 175,000 square feet of gaming space.
The rest of the amenity list reads like a standard modern megaresort: two spas, multiple pools, live entertainment venues, and dozens of restaurants, lounges and retail outlets. Hard Rock has also been adding to that list as construction continues, including plans filed with Clark County this summer for a second, more intimate 2,000 seat theater on the site.
What this means for a Vegas trip
Nothing here is bookable yet. Hard Rock Las Vegas is not taking reservations, and the opening window is still more than a year out. But the guitar tower is visible from the Strip right now, and it is worth knowing what you are looking at if you are walking or driving past the old Mirage site this year.
It is also a property to keep an eye on for entertainment. Hard Rock built its brand on live music, Elton John has already signed on for a hologram residency there, and the new theater filing suggests the company wants multiple stages running from day one. None of that changes a 2026 trip, but it is worth remembering once 2027 gets closer.
My bottom line
Hard Rock Las Vegas is not open and will not be until late 2027, but its guitar tower is now wrapped in blue glass and getting its LED string lighting, the clearest visible sign yet of the old Mirage site's transformation. There is nothing to book here yet, just a Strip landmark worth watching take shape.
