F1 Prep Brings October Strip Lane Closures
Tuesday, October 6, 2026·4 min read
Formula 1 construction is narrowing key Strip corridors through October, with Flamingo Road and Koval Lane closing for temporary bridge work October 11 through 16.
The F1 build is entering the part that visitors actually feel in a car. Through October 30, Las Vegas Boulevard between Sands Avenue and Harmon Avenue is down to one lane in each direction overnight, Monday through Friday, from midnight to 9 a.m. The more disruptive piece follows October 11 through 16, when Flamingo Road and Koval Lane close for installation of the temporary Flamingo Road bridge. If your hotel, dinner, show or airport ride touches that area, leave room in the schedule now instead of discovering the detour from the back seat of a rideshare.
FOX5 Las Vegas and the Las Vegas Review-Journal separately reported the latest closures as Formula 1 preparations advance toward the November 19 through 21 Las Vegas Grand Prix. The construction is not race-week shutdown territory yet, but it is no longer background work. The affected streets sit beside the east side of the Strip, Sphere, several large resorts and the routes many visitors use to move between the airport and the resort corridor.
The Dates That Matter
FOX5 reports that Las Vegas Boulevard from Sands Avenue to Harmon Avenue has overnight lane reductions from October 5 through October 30. One lane in each direction remains open from midnight to 9 a.m. on weekdays. Sands Avenue, from Las Vegas Boulevard to Manhattan Street, is also reduced overnight through October 16, Sunday through Friday from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. One lane remains open there as well.
The temporary bridge work is the date to put on your own calendar. The Regional Transportation Commission says Flamingo Road and Koval Lane will close from October 11 through 16 while the Flamingo vehicular bridge is installed. FOX5 says Routes 119 and 202 will detour during that period. The bridge is part of the race setup, designed to preserve access across the circuit area once the event infrastructure takes over the surrounding streets.
What Visitors Should Change
Do not treat a normal map estimate as a promise if you are moving through the Strip overnight this month. A route that crosses Las Vegas Boulevard, Sands, Flamingo or Koval can be affected by a lane reduction, a turn restriction or the traffic pushed there from another closure. The smart move is to give yourself a buffer for dinner reservations, ticketed shows and flights, especially if the plan depends on a car arriving at an exact minute.
Walking is often the simpler answer for short trips inside the resort corridor, but check the route before you leave the hotel. The construction is not confined to one isolated block, and bus stops are part of the disruption. FOX5 reports that Deuce stops begin overnight closures October 5. For a longer ride, look at the active road and transit notices the day of the trip rather than relying on an itinerary built weeks earlier.
Where The Friction Will Show Up
The closure area matters beyond the track itself. Sands Avenue is a common approach to Sphere and the Venetian and Palazzo side of the Strip. Flamingo Road and Koval Lane are key connections for resorts near the east side of the boulevard, while Las Vegas Boulevard carries the traffic that ties the central and south Strip together. That does not mean every hotel stay needs a complete redesign. It means a plan with no slack is the one most likely to go sideways.
If you are coming in for Metallica at Sphere, an east-Strip dinner or a late flight, build the transportation decision into the plan early. Pick a nearby meal, head toward the venue earlier than usual, or choose a route that does not depend on crossing the Flamingo and Koval intersection during the bridge closure. The useful goal is not to avoid every cone. It is to avoid being surprised by the few closures that can affect an entire evening.
This Is The October Version Of F1 Disruption
The November race will bring its own access rules, race traffic and event-week crowds. October is different: the practical issue is construction activity that changes from week to week. FOX5 says the current work includes an Audrie Street closure north of Harmon through October 9, plus the larger boulevard and Sands lane reductions. The Review-Journal reported that installation of the Flamingo bridge is set to begin this weekend, which is why the next phase deserves attention now.
For visitors, the answer is basic and useful. Keep checking the Formula 1 transportation page and RTC alerts before a drive, airport run or bus trip near the Strip. Leave earlier than a usual week, use a walkable plan when it makes sense and do not schedule a tight chain of stops around the affected roads. A little planning is enough to keep F1 construction from becoming the main event of the day.
My bottom line
F1 construction is narrowing Las Vegas Boulevard and Sands Avenue overnight through October, while Flamingo Road and Koval Lane are scheduled to close October 11 through 16 for the temporary bridge installation. Visitors staying or traveling near the east side of the Strip should check active road and transit alerts, leave extra time and avoid tight car-dependent plans.
